Satellite TV Providers

Meet DirecTV & DISH Network
In the United States, your satellite TV service comes from of one of two providers: DirecTV or DISH Network. On the surface, there seems to be little difference between the two, but the competition is fierce as each company attempts to lure new subscribers and claim a larger piece of the market share. If you are considering satellite TV service, here’s what you need to know about the companies from which you’ll choose.

DirecTV
DirectTV, founded in 1990, claims to be the industry leader with more than 16.8 million customers in the system. DirecTV subscribers have access to more then 250 channels of digital programming, with 70 broadcast in high-definition. For seven straight years, DirecTV has ranked higher in customer satisfaction than any competing cable company in a shared market. With international operations throughout Latin America, DirecTV is a global company on the move.

When you sign up for DirecTV, the satellite dish and professional installation are provided free with a service contract. Up to four receivers will be installed in your home, but after the first one, you’ll pay $4.99 a month for each additional.

Programming packages start at just $29.99 per month for the Family Package (45 channels), with the Choice Package (150 channels) coming in at the same price for the duration of a 12 month promotional period. (The regular price is $52.99 per month for the Choice Package). While dozens of premium channels are available via a la carte ordering, DirecTV’s claim to fame may very well be the NFL Sunday Ticket. Immensely popular with NFL fans, Sunday Ticket is the only place to see every game in the NFL every week, and it’s only available through DirecTV.

DISH Network
DISH Network claims a lot of firsts: first to offer a satellite receiver for less than $220, first to offer a satellite receiver with built-in digital video recording, and first satellite TV company to offer local channels to local markets in all 50 states, and there are many more. With more than 13 million customers, DISH Network is ranked #1 in customer satisfaction by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).

DISH Network also offers free professional installation of your new satellite system in up to four rooms. Installation includes a site survey, assembly and grounding, cable, weather protection at penetration points, system testing, and much more – a total value of $199.

DISH Network also has packages starting at just $29.99 per month. They also offer a free HD DVR receiver upgrade, although a small monthly rental fee will apply to each unit. For die-hard TV fans, America’s “Everything” Pak delivers with more than 280 channels of entertainment, including 31 commercial free premium movie channels. Stay up on the local sports scene with the Regional Sports Network, geared right to your zip code. The America’s “Everything” Pak is a great deal at only $94.98. For still more variety, some viewers may be interested in one of DISH Network’s niche markets, including Latino and International Packages. Due to the competition between the two satellite TV providers, great new deals are constantly evolving online. Be sure to check them out of the web before committing to get the most for your money.
